Appellation ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 1 Updated:

A sweet fortified Muscat wine from the town of Frontignan on the Mediterranean.

Muscat de Frontignan is a sweet fortified Muscat wine from the town of Frontignan on the Mediterranean coast, in Languedoc in southern France. It has a protected name (PDO). The vineyards grow on limestone and stony soils next to the lagoon and the sea.

The wine is made from white Muscat grapes. They are picked ripe, then the juice starts to ferment and grape spirit is added. Fermentation stops, and a lot of natural sugar stays in the wine. The result is a golden wine with a bright aroma of Muscat, flowers, orange peel and honey. Strength is usually from 15%.

Muscat de Frontignan belongs to white and fortified sweet wines and is related to other Muscat wines of southern France. It is served chilled, with desserts, fruit, pâtés and blue cheeses, in small portions. The wine has long been known and was made well before the modern appellation. It is often sold in distinctive bottles.
