🗺️ Norwegian wine
The country's wine and winemaking: regions, grapes and appellations.
Norwegian wine is the wine of a country with a cold northern climate. Grapes grow with great difficulty here, so the home grape harvest is small. Most often wine in Norway is made from apples, berries and other fruit.
There are several areas in the country where fruit winemaking is done: Telemark, Sogn, Vestfold and Agder. These are warm places by Norwegian standards, near fjords and the coast. Apples and pears ripen better here, and cider and wine are made from them. There are also small farms that try to grow grapes.
Norwegians mostly drink imported wine. The sale of alcohol in the country is strictly regulated by the state, and this strongly affects the market. A traditional winter drink is glögg, hot spiced wine served at Christmas.
Norwegian wine belongs to the wines of Europe, but you are unlikely to meet it often. It is more a local feature than a large industry.
