🗺️ Danish wine
The country's wine and winemaking: regions, grape varieties, appellations.
Danish wine is wine from Denmark, a country in northern Europe. For grape growing it is a cold-climate land, and vineyards here appeared only recently. In 2000 Denmark was officially recognised as a wine-producing country of the European Union. Since then the number of vineyards has grown.
The wine areas are Jutland, Funen, Zealand and the island of Bornholm, the sunniest in the country. Cold- and disease-resistant varieties are grown, such as Solaris and Rondo, along with classic whites suited to cool climates. White, rosé, red and sparkling wines are made. Volumes are very small, so the wine is mostly sold on the spot and in local shops.
Danish tradition includes gløgg, a hot spiced drink made from wine and drunk before Christmas. It differs from ordinary wine and is not counted as a Danish grape wine. Danish wine is among the wines of Europe and, like English wine, shows that grapes can be grown further and further north. Warming of the climate helps this process.

⚠️ Wine contains alcohol: adults only, drink in moderation. Wine usually contains sulphites; egg white or milk proteins are sometimes used for fining — important for allergies and for vegans.
