🍷 Reserve Ruby Port
A higher-quality Ruby, aged a little longer.
Reserve Ruby is a higher-quality Port in the ruby style. It used to be called 'Vintage Character', but the name was dropped to avoid confusion with Vintage Port.
Like basic ruby, it is a blend of wines from different years, aged in large casks or vats. The ageing is shorter than for tawny, and the wine has little contact with air. So it keeps a deep ruby colour and the taste of fresh black berries, cherry and plum.
The difference from ordinary ruby lies in selection. Reserve uses richer wines and keeps them a little longer. Each batch must be approved by the tasting panel of the Port and Douro Wines Institute.
Reserve Ruby is ready to drink when bought and does not need long cellaring. Like all Port, it has about 19–22% alcohol. It is part of Portuguese wine and a step between ruby and the rarer styles.
