🍷 Rosé Port

Type of wine ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 2

A new, light pink Port that appeared in 2008.

Rosé Port is the youngest style of Port. It was first released in 2008 and was soon officially recognised by the Douro and Port Wine Institute. Like all Port, it is made in the Douro valley in northern Portugal from local red grapes.

The technique is similar to rosé wine: the grapes stay on their skins only briefly, so the juice turns pink rather than deep red. Then, as with all Port, fermentation is stopped with grape spirit. Sugar remains, and the wine is sweet and strong, usually around 19%. There is no long cask ageing, so the taste is fresh and fruity, with notes of strawberry, raspberry and cherry.

Rosé Port was designed as a light, fashionable drink for a younger audience. It is served well chilled, over ice, with tonic or in cocktails. For Port this is a new approach, since the wine is usually tied to long ageing and evenings by the fire. Like any fortified wine, it is best enjoyed in moderation.
