🍷 Types of wine
Wines grouped by colour, sweetness, sparkle, strength and method.
Types of wine are a way of sorting the huge variety of wines by simple features. The most common is colour: red wine, white wine, rosé wine and orange wine. Colour depends less on the juice than on how long the juice stays in contact with the grape skins.
The second feature is sweetness. It is set by residual sugar, the sugar that yeast did not turn into alcohol. By this measure there is dry wine, off-dry (medium-dry) wine, medium-sweet wine and sweet wine.
The third feature is bubbles. Still wine has none, semi-sparkling wine gently prickles the tongue, and sparkling wine foams. Apart from these stand fortified wine, which has grape spirit added, and aromatised wine with herbs and spices, such as vermouth.
Finally, wines differ by method and rules of production: qvevri wine, amphora wine, natural wine, organic wine, vegan wine. One wine can belong to several types at once, for example dry, white, sparkling and organic.
