📜 Robola of Kefalonia
A dry white wine from the Robola grape from the mountain vineyards of Kefalonia.
Robola of Kefalonia is a dry white wine with a protected name from Greece. It is made on Kefalonia, an island in the Ionian Sea. The Robola grape grows on mountain slopes, mainly on limestone soils, at altitudes of up to several hundred metres.
The vineyards lie on mountain terraces, with a sea breeze nearby. Summers are warm and nights cool, so the berries ripen slowly and keep their freshness. The crop is small, and the work is often done by hand. The best-known sites lie around Mount Ainos.
The wine is pale, with bright acidity, aromas of citrus and apple and a light minerality. It is drunk young and chilled. It goes well with fish, seafood and Greek starters.
Robola of Kefalonia belongs to the white wines of Greece. Other island varieties grow nearby. Alcohol is for adults and best taken in moderation.
