The famous red grand cru from Pinot Noir in Vosne-Romanée, one of the most expensive wines in the world.

Romanée-Conti is a famous red grand cru from Pinot Noir in the village of Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. It is one of the smallest and most expensive vineyards in the world. It belongs to a single estate, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and is therefore called a monopole.

The plot is small, under two hectares. Other famous grands crus lie nearby, such as La Tâche and La Grande Rue. The name is protected as a PDO. The wine is still, red, from a single grape.

Romanée-Conti wine is described as fine and very complex, with red fruit, spice and earthy notes. It ages well for decades. Few bottles are produced, so demand is enormous. Auction prices reach very high levels, and the wine is bought mostly by collectors.

One should not think that good Burgundy necessarily costs this much. Many Burgundy wines are more affordable and also interesting. Romanée-Conti is rather a legend and a symbol of Burgundy, where the place itself carries the highest price.
