📜 Chapelle-Chambertin
A red grand cru in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, with wines from Pinot Noir.
Chapelle-Chambertin is a red grand cru in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits of Burgundy. The wines are made from Pinot Noir. It is one of nine grand crus that carry the Chambertin name: next to it lie the better-known Chambertin and other sites.
The vineyard is small and lies on a slope, on limestone-clay soil. The name comes from a small chapel ("chapelle") that stood nearby. Wines from Chapelle-Chambertin are usually considered lighter and more elegant than those of neighbouring Chambertin: less power, more finesse, with aromas of red berries, flowers and spice. But they remain age-worthy and serious.
Grand cru status is given only to the best sites, and the rules for them are stricter. The appellation covers still red wines, and only one grape is allowed. The name Chapelle-Chambertin is linked to the Côte de Nuits, the main area of red Burgundy. Such wines are served with game, meat and cheese, and drunk after several years of ageing.
