A former royal vineyard.

Segarcea is a wine zone in south-western Romania, in Dolj County in Oltenia. It belongs to the Muntenia and Oltenia Hills zone. The small town of Segarcea lies at the western end of the Wallachian Plain, about 25 kilometres south of Craiova and 30 kilometres north of the Danube. The name is protected as a PDO.

Segarcea is known as a former royal vineyard: the estate belonged to the Romanian royal house, and its wine was sold and exported to many countries under the trade name "The Crown Domain" (Domeniul Coroanei). The town is famous for white wines, although red grapes are grown here today too.

The main red grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon and Fetească Neagră. Cabernet gives full, dark, tannic wines, and Fetească Neagră gives softer ones with plum and spice aromas.

The wines of Segarcea are still tied to the history of the Romanian monarchy. The town has about 7,400 inhabitants and covers about 12,000 hectares, and it belongs to the Craiova metropolitan area. The town is in the east-central part of Dolj County. The surroundings of the town are part of the flat, open Wallachian Plain.
