🥃 Ardbeg Uigeadail
Ardbeg line with no age statement: peaty whisky from Islay, 54.2% ABV, with sherry-cask character, not chill-filtered.
Ardbeg Uigeadail is an Ardbeg expression with no age statement on the label, bottled at 54.2% ABV. It is a peaty single malt from Islay in which the smoky base is complemented by raisin notes from sherry casks. The name comes from the loch the water is drawn from; it is pronounced roughly 'oog-a-dal'. The whisky is not chill-filtered.
According to The Whisky Shop, it is a blend of smoky Ardbeg spirit with older sherry casks, and Difford's Guide also links the raisin notes to them. The cask mix and cask ages are not given in the sources, so we do not quote figures. Like any Scotch, the whisky must mature in oak for at least three years.
Why this matters to you. Uigeadail is stronger than Ten (46%), so a measure tastes different, and a little water helps open up the flavour. With no age on the label, compare it with Ten by strength and casks rather than by years. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
