🍳 Breakfast
The main "dairy" meal of the day.
Breakfast is the first meal of the day. The English word “breakfast” means “to break the fast”. That is, to end the night-time break from eating. The word in this sense appeared in English around the 15th century.
In many countries, breakfast is the most “milky” meal of the day. Cereal is topped with cold milk, and porridge is cooked in milk. People drink coffee with milk, cocoa or tea with milk. Cheese, butter, yogurt and cottage cheese go on the table. Coffee and tea became part of the European breakfast in the 16th–18th centuries. Cereal with milk has been eaten since the late 19th century.
Breakfasts differ from country to country. In France, croissants and other pastries are served with milky coffee. In Italy, people drink cappuccino in the morning and hardly ever later in the day. In some places in Africa, breakfast is milk, curds and whey. Milk makes breakfast more filling: it has protein and calcium.
