🥣 Porridge
Milk porridge.
Porridge is a dish of grain or groats cooked in water or milk. It is made from oats, rice, buckwheat, millet, semolina, corn and other grains. Porridge is eaten in many countries: oatmeal in Great Britain, rice porridge (congee) in Asia, corn polenta in Italy.
It is one of the oldest dishes of all. Traces of porridge in Denmark go back as far as 4200 BC. Porridge appeared wherever people began to grow grain.
Milk porridge is a familiar breakfast. Usually 2–4 cups of liquid are used for each cup of grain: more for a runny porridge, less for a thick one. Water and milk are often mixed so the porridge does not burn. Milk makes it softer, more filling and tastier. Butter, sugar, honey, berries or fruit are added to the finished porridge. There is also savoury porridge — with vegetables, meat or spices.
