📜 Brouilly
The largest of the ten Beaujolais crus, making red wines from Gamay.
Brouilly is the largest of the ten crus of Beaujolais, a region in eastern France. A cru is one of the most renowned villages or areas of the region. All red Brouilly is made from the Gamay grape. The name is protected as a PDO. The wine is still, without bubbles.
Brouilly lies in northern Beaujolais, around the hill of Mont Brouilly, and is bigger in area than any other cru. The soils here are mostly granite and volcanic, with some limestone. The wine is fruity, with notes of cherry and red berries, soft and light.
Brouilly wines are usually drunk young, within a few years of the harvest. They are served slightly chilled, at about 14–16 degrees. They go well with simple dishes, cured meats and cheese.
Each of the ten Beaujolais crus has its own character. Brouilly is considered one of the most approachable and friendly, because the wine is soft and not sharply tannic.
