Appellation ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 2 Updated:

A combined appellation of the right-bank Bordeaux slopes: Blaye, Castillon, Francs and Cadillac.

Côtes de Bordeaux is a combined appellation of the right-bank slopes in the Bordeaux region of France. It includes five areas: Blaye, Castillon, Francs, Cadillac and Sainte-Foy. It is a protected designation of origin (PDO). The name means "slopes of Bordeaux".

Vineyards grow on hills above the Garonne and Dordogne, with views over the water. Reds from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc dominate. White wines are also made, from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as sweet ones. The red wines are soft and fruity with moderate tannins, and are often reasonably priced.

The appellation united five areas that were once each known separately. Now together they provide steady quality. The label may also name the particular area. Côtes de Bordeaux is a good choice for an everyday table and suits meat, poultry and cheese. It is the more modest side of Bordeaux, but with an honest taste.
