๐ Sauvignon Blanc
A white grape from France with a bright, fresh aroma; grown in almost every wine country.
Sauvignon Blanc is a white grape from France. It gives wines with a bright, fresh aroma: citrus, gooseberry, green herbs, sometimes tropical fruit. Acidity is usually high, and the wines are dry and light. The name is linked to the French word for wild: the vine grows vigorously and sprawls.
The variety comes from the Loire Valley, where it makes Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumรฉ. It is also the basis of white Bordeaux and of the sweet wines Sauternes and Barsac, where it is blended with Sรฉmillon. Today it grows in almost every wine country: Italy (Friuli), Austria (Styria), Romania, Bulgaria, Czechia, Spain, New Zealand, Chile and others.
Sauvignon Blanc is related to Traminer and is a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, which came from a cross of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Its descendants also include newer varieties. Sparkling wines also exist, for example Crรฉmant de Bordeaux.
