🥣 Creamer
Also known as: cream jug, milk jug
A small jug for milk or cream served with coffee and tea.
A creamer is a small jug with a spout for milk or cream. It is put on the table when tea or coffee is served. Everyone pours as much milk as they like. A creamer is part of a tea or coffee set.
Creamers are made of porcelain, earthenware, silver and other metals. Creamers shaped like a cow are especially famous. The milk is poured in through a hole in the back and comes out of the mouth. Such creamers first appeared in Holland and became very popular in England. Ceramic “cows” were made from about 1740, and silver ones from the 1750s. One English museum has a collection of more than 600 of them.
Cafés use a similar metal jug called a pitcher. In it, the barista froths milk with steam and then pours it into the coffee. This is how cappuccino, latte and pictures in the foam are made.
