🥃 Finlandia Platinum
Premium Finlandia since 2011: six-row barley, glacial water, birch-chip filtration, 40 % vol.
Finlandia Platinum is the premium expression of the Finlandia brand, which appeared in September 2011 alongside the standard vodka. Its strength is the same as Classic: 40 % vol. The difference is an extra stage of purification: after distillation the spirit is passed through a layer of birch wood chips. The crystal-style bottle was designed by Harri Koskinen and Ken Hirst.
The base is fermented six-row barley; the spirit is diluted with glacial spring water in Rajamäki. According to Difford's Guide, the vodka is clear and clean on the palate, with grain and birch notes and a slightly spicy bread finish. The water for dilution is treated at the distillery only with a mechanical filter for visible particles.
Why this matters to you. Platinum is the simplest way to taste how birch-chip filtration changes a vodka without flavourings: compare it with Finlandia Classic at the same strength. The label does not change the main point: this is a vodka, and the difference between the expressions lies in the purification method, not in the strength. The WHO reminds us: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
