🥃 Nikka From The Barrel
Blended Japanese whisky from Nikka since 1985: over a hundred malt and grain whiskies, married in casks; 51.4% ABV.
Nikka From The Barrel is a blended Japanese whisky from Nikka, sold in a small square bottle. Its strength is 51.4% ABV. According to Whisky Advocate, this is not cask strength, despite what the name suggests: the blenders deliberately chose 90 British proof. The blend was created in 1985 by a team led by Shigeo Sato.
According to the producer, the blend contains over a hundred malt and grain whiskies, mostly malts from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, plus grain whisky from Coffey stills. After blending, the whisky returns to casks for a few months, and this “marriage” smooths the taste. Whisky Advocate mentions bourbon barrels, sherry casks and refill hogsheads.
Why this matters to you. This is the strongest permanent version of the brand, so try it with a few drops of water. To understand its components, compare it with Nikka Coffey Grain and Yoichi Single Malt. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe amount of alcohol.
