📜 Saint-Véran
Chardonnay whites in the southern Mâconnais, next to Pouilly-Fuissé.
Saint-Véran is an appellation in the south of the Mâconnais, in Burgundy, France. The name has been protected since 1971. Only dry white wines are made here, and only from Chardonnay. The area lies next to Pouilly-Fuissé, around several villages. Its neighbour Pouilly-Fuissé makes it a choice for those who want a similar style at a more affordable price.
Hillsides of limestone and clay suit Chardonnay. The wine is pale and fresh, with notes of citrus, apple and flowers. It is usually softer and lighter than wines of the Côte d’Or, and more affordable.
Saint-Véran is more often drunk young, within one to three years, though some wines age for longer. It is served chilled with fish, poultry, goat cheese and light starters.
Saint-Véran belongs to the Mâconnais and is one of the white wines of Burgundy. It is an example of Chardonnay with less oak ageing and more fresh fruit notes. Alcohol is for adults.
