🥃 Bundaberg Select Vat
Bundaberg line of selected older rum matured in American oak; 37% ABV.
Bundaberg Select Vat is a dark Bundaberg rum at 37% ABV. The official website describes it as carefully selected older rum matured in American oak, with notes of dried fruit. The first release, according to the Bundaberg Rum Showcase reference site, came out on 24 June 2012.
The same reference site says the rum was taken from vat 207 and matured for at least four years in oak vats. The official website does not give an exact period and only notes that batch numbers differ. The taste is described as iris, deep oak and caramelised banana, and in the mouth as fruitcake and golden syrup.
Why this matters to you. Select Vat is the step up from Original UP: the same strength, but a more pronounced oak character. It differs from Small Batch Reserve in using American oak rather than former cognac casks. Because batches vary, do not expect every bottle to taste the same. The WHO reminds us that no level of alcohol consumption is safe.
