🥃 Cragganmore Distillers Edition
Cragganmore with a double maturation: first oak casks, then port casks; limited annual batches, 40% ABV according to WhiskyNotes.
Cragganmore Distillers Edition is the second regular expression from the Cragganmore distillery, alongside the 12-year-old. It differs by its double maturation: after the main casks, the whisky receives a finish in port casks. Batches come out every year, with the distillation and bottling years on the label; WhiskyNotes gives 40% ABV for the 1998/2012 batch.
According to the official malts.com website, the 2022 batch first matured in refilled American and European oak casks. It was then transferred into recharred American oak casks soaked with port. Older batches, according to malts.com and WhiskyNotes, were finished in ruby port casks. The spirit itself is the same: lightly peated malt, flat-topped stills and water-cooled condensers.
Why it matters to you. Compare it with Cragganmore 12 Year Old: the difference is exactly the influence of port, which adds red berries and sweetness. Check the cask scheme by the batch year, because it has changed over time. The WHO reminds that there is no safe dose of alcohol.
