Terraces along the Danube.

The Danube Terraces (Terasele Dunării) are a wine area in southern Romania along the Danube. It is part of Romanian wine. It includes the districts of Greaca and Ostrov (in Constanța County, in Northern Dobruja, not far from the border with Bulgaria). The name says that the vine grows on terraces rising above the river valley.

Romania as a whole has about 187,000 hectares of vineyards and ranks sixth among European countries.

Red and white grapes are grown: Fetească Albă, Merlot, and also local vineyards from which wines with the protected name "Însurăței" are made. White, red, rosé and still wines are made. Romania's wine regions are the Transylvanian Plateau, the Moldavian Hills, the Muntenia and Oltenia Hills, the Banat Hills, the Crișana and Maramureș hills, the Dobruja Hills and the Danube Terraces; the Danube Terraces are one of them. Ostrov was a town until 1950 and is a commune today. Romania ranks thirteenth in the world by wine volume. Greaca is in Giurgiu County in the far south of Romania, while Ostrov is in Constanța County.
