🥃 Dewar's White Label
Base line of Dewar's blended Scotch whisky, 40% ABV; first blended in 1899, with no age statement.
Dewar's White Label is the base line of Dewar's blended Scotch whisky and the brand's main expression. It is bottled at 40% ABV and has no age statement. The first blend is dated to 1899; according to Difford's Guide, it was created by the master blender A. J. Cameron. The producer describes the taste as a honeyed grain base, orchard fruit, soft vanilla and a hint of smoke.
According to the producer, the blend includes up to 30 single malt and grain whiskies, among them mature reserves from the company's own distilleries. Difford's Guide considers White Label light, with a noticeable influence from the single malt Aberfeldy. The Scotch whisky rules require at least three years in oak casks. The producer does not separately mention a two-stage maturation for White Label.
Why this matters to you. It is the starting point for the 12-, 15- and 18-year-old lines: with age, the honey and oak become deeper. The absence of an age on the label does not mean the whisky is younger than three years. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
