🥃 The Deveron 18 Year Old
The oldest whisky in the core range of The Deveron from the Macduff distillery, on sale since October 2015: 18 years old, 40 % ABV.
The Deveron 18 Year Old is the oldest whisky in the core range of The Deveron, under which the Macduff distillery sells its own single malt. Bacardi presented it in September 2015 together with the 12-year-old, when it renamed the former Glen Deveron. Its strength is 40 % ABV.
The whisky is made from barley malt at the distillery in Banff, with five copper stills. According to Difford's Guide, it matures for at least 18 years in ex-American whisky barrels. The producer promised fruit depth with nutty notes. Whisky Advocate, in its 2016 review, noted apricot, raisin and iris on the nose, and dark spice, apple and walnut on the palate.
Why it matters to you. Compared with The Deveron 12 Year Old, the aging is six years longer at the same strength, so the taste is richer. Because its strength is low for such an age, the whisky is light, so add water with care. WHO reminds us: there is no safe dose of alcohol.
