🍇 Fetească Regală
A white Romanian grape crossed from Fetească Albă; it makes fresh, aromatic wines.
Fetească Regală is a white Romanian grape. It came from a crossing: the parents are regarded as Fetească Albă (white Fetească) and Grasă. The name means "royal maiden".
Fetească Regală makes fresh, aromatic wines with floral and fruity notes. It yields well and keeps its acidity, so it suits both dry and sparkling wines. It is grown in Romania, in regions such as Târnave, Dealu Mare and the Transylvanian Plateau.
The variety also grows in neighbouring countries: Moldova, Transcarpathia in Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary. In Hungary it is known as Királyleányka. It is one of the most widely planted white grapes in Romania. Wine from this grape is best drunk young, while it is fresh. It is served chilled with fish, salads and light starters.
