🥃 Four Roses Small Batch Select
Four Roses line blended from six recipes; aged 6 to 7 years; not chill filtered; 52% ABV (104 proof).
Four Roses Small Batch Select is the strongest of the main Four Roses lines, a Kentucky bourbon at 52% ABV (104 proof). According to the producer's page, it is blended from six recipes, aged six and seven years, and it is not chill filtered. It is an expression for those who already know the base line.
The official list includes OBSV, OBSK, OBSF, OESV, OESK and OESF: both mash bills combined with yeast strains V, K and F. The producer describes notes of delicate fruit, rye, spice, mint and light grain. The bourbon matures in new charred oak barrels. According to the description, the aroma is raspberry, clove and nutmeg; the taste is apricot, berries, vanilla and light oak; the finish is a long mint with cinnamon.
Why this matters to you. Compare it with Small Batch: six recipes against four and a noticeably higher strength, so it is often sipped in small amounts or with a few drops of water. Single Barrel comes from one barrel. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
