📍 La Côte
Gentle slopes between Lausanne and Geneva, the largest area of Vaud.
La Côte is a wine zone in Switzerland, in the canton of Vaud. It covers gentle slopes above the shore of Lake Geneva, between Lausanne and Geneva. It is the largest wine zone in the canton of Vaud.
The main grape grown here is Chasselas, a white grape that gives light, fresh wines. Among reds, Gamay and Pinot Noir grow. The lake softens the climate: it holds heat and reflects light onto the slopes.
The zone is divided into separate names. Among them are Mont-sur-Rolle, Féchy, Morges, Nyon, Aubonne, Bégnins, Coteaux de Vincy, Luins, Vinzel, Tartegnin, Perroy and Rolle. Each of them is its own area with its own villages.
The French word côte means slope or coast. La Côte is part of the larger Vaud region, and its wines are mostly drunk in Switzerland, since little is exported. The vineyards stand in rows on terraces and slopes, with the lake and mountains behind them, which is why tourists like the area.
