๐ Magarach Ruby
A red grape bred at the Magarach Institute in Yalta, Crimea, Ukraine.
Magarach Ruby is a red technical grape bred at the Magarach institute in Yalta, Crimea, Ukraine. The institute is one of the oldest scientific centres of viticulture and winemaking in the country, and it has bred many varieties suited to the local climate.
The variety was obtained by crossing two well-known red grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon and Saperavi. From Cabernet it took structure and tannins, from Saperavi a deep colour. The name reflects the deep ruby shade given by the skins of the berries.
Wine from this grape is thick and dark, with firm structure and notes of dark berries. It is used both on its own and in blends, and also in fortified and dessert wines.
The grape is grown in Crimea, in southern Ukraine, and in Moldova. It belongs to the general list of grape varieties and to Ukrainian wine, which has a long history.
