🥃 Signature Rare Aged
The core version of Signature Indian whisky (United Spirits, Diageo): imported Scotch whiskies blended with aged Indian malt and grain spirits; 42.8% ABV.
Signature Rare Aged is the core version of the Indian whisky brand Signature, produced since 1994 by United Spirits, a Diageo subsidiary. On the Diageo India page it is called Signature Rare. According to Whisky Israel's 2015 review, the strength is 42.8% ABV; the age is not stated on the label.
According to Diageo India, the blend combines ten imported Scotch whiskies with aged Indian malt whiskies and grain spirits; master blender Louise Martin creates the blend. The Whisky Israel review mentions Scotch whiskies from Islay and the Highlands and a light peaty note. The company does not disclose the share of Scotch, and the recipe can differ between markets.
Why this matters to you. Rare Aged is the brand's main expression; Signature Premier Grain sits next to it with a grain emphasis. This is an Indian whisky, not a Scotch: a blend with grain spirit does not meet the rules for blended Scotch whisky. The WHO reminds: there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
