🥃 Tanduay Silver
A light Tanduay rum: a blend of rums aged up to five years in ex-bourbon casks, lightly charcoal filtered; 40% ABV.
Tanduay Silver is the light rum from the Philippine brand Tanduay. According to Difford's Guide, it is a blend of rums aged up to five years, bottled at 40% ABV. There is no age statement on the label. In export markets, including the United States, it is sold as Tanduay Asian Rum Silver.
The rum is made from local sugar cane molasses at the Tanduay Distillers distillery in Manila. It is aged in ex-bourbon barrels and lightly filtered through charcoal before bottling, which gives it a pale, straw colour. Difford's Guide describes notes of vanilla, coconut, oak and lime.
Why this matters for you. The Tasting Alliance calls Silver a base for rum cocktails. Tanduay Gold is aged longer, up to seven years, and is darker, while Tanduay Double Rum blends much older rums. The phrase 'up to five years' refers to the oldest rum in the blend, not the minimum age. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
