🥃 Havana Club Añejo 7 Años
Cuban Havana Club rum at 40% ABV: a blend in which the youngest rum is seven years old, aged in ex-bourbon barrels.
Havana Club Añejo 7 Años is the flagship expression of the Havana Club brand, at 40% ABV. It was created in the 1970s by Don José Navarro; according to Difford's Guide, it was the first aged Cuban rum offered as a drink for slow sipping. The age of 7 years on the label refers to the youngest component of the blend.
This is a blend of rums of different ages, the youngest of which, according to Difford's Guide, matures for seven years in ex-bourbon barrels. The base is cane sugar molasses from Cuba, distilled in two-column continuous stills. The blend is assembled by the Maestros del Ron Cubano, who select the barrels and the rums. The colour is a rich copper-amber.
Why this matters to you. This is the rum most often compared with Añejo 3 Años and Añejo Especial: here the age is stated, and the taste is denser and drier. “7 Años” is the age of the youngest component, so older rums are also in the bottle. Check the country of production and the strength. The WHO reminds us: there is no safe amount of alcohol.
