🥃 Tanduay Gold
An amber Tanduay rum: a blend of rums aged up to seven years in ex-bourbon casks; cane sugar molasses; 40% ABV.
Tanduay Gold is the amber rum from the Philippine brand Tanduay. According to Difford's Guide, it is a blend of rums aged up to seven years, bottled at 40% ABV. There is no age statement on the label. In export markets, including the United States, it is sold as Tanduay Asian Rum Gold.
The raw material is sugar cane molasses, which Difford's Guide calls the heritage base. The rum is aged in ex-bourbon barrels in the Philippines, where the hot climate speeds up the interaction between the spirit and the wood. The Tasting Alliance describes the taste as soft, with tropical fruit and nutmeg; Difford's Guide adds marzipan, coconut and vanilla.
Why this matters for you. Tanduay Gold sits in the middle of the range: it is aged longer and darker than Tanduay Silver, but younger than Tanduay Double Rum. It is easy to compare with other rums aged in ex-bourbon barrels. 'Up to seven years' refers to the oldest rum in the blend, not the minimum age. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
