🥃 The CHOYA Single Year
The CHOYA Single Year: Choya Umeshu from Nanko plums of Kishu, aged one year; 15% ABV.
The CHOYA Single Year is the youngest expression of the CHOYA series from the Japanese brand Choya Umeshu. It is an umeshu, a plum liqueur, aged for one year, with a strength of 15% ABV. According to the official page, a 700 ml bottle holds about 315 g of Nanko plums from the Kishu region.
The recipe uses only umeshu plums, sugar and sugar-cane spirit. Galumbi's 2017 review, which cites the producer, says the liqueur is blended from at least three batches, each aged between one and two years. The producer says the sweetness is kept restrained so that the natural tartness and plum aroma come through.
Why it matters to you. Single Year has the shortest ageing in the series. CHOYA Aged 3 Years matures for three years and has more plums per bottle, while CHOYA Extra Years is stronger at 17% ABV and sweeter. According to the producer, Single Year contains 24.7 g of carbohydrates per 100 ml. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe dose of alcohol.
