π Uva di Troia
A red wine grape from Apulia in southern Italy.
Uva di Troia is a red wine grape from Apulia in southern Italy. The name is linked to the town of Troia in the province of Foggia. It is a local Italian variety.
The vine ripens late, the berries are dark, and the wines are full-bodied with noticeable tannins. The grape is used, for example, in Castel del Monte, including riserva, and in Rosso di Cerignola, Barletta, Cacc'e mmitte di Lucera and Tavoliere delle Puglie. It is grown in Daunia, on the Murge plateau and near Orta Nova.
In Italy these are known as Apulian reds, and the variety is part of the country's large list of grape varieties. It is often blended with other grapes or made on its own. Taste depends on place and vintage, and the best wines age well.
