🥃 Vikingfjord Vodka
Classic Vikingfjord vodka: potato spirit and water, five-column distillation, neutral taste; 37.5% ABV in Norway.
Vikingfjord Vodka is the classic vodka of the Vikingfjord brand from the Norwegian company Arcus. It is a potato vodka with no flavouring added. The Norwegian retail chain Vinmonopolet describes it as light, clean and neutral, clear as water. In Norway it is bottled at 37.5% ABV in 0.5 l and 0.7 l bottles.
The spirit is made from potatoes and distilled in a five-column still. According to Vinmonopolet, the recipe is only potato spirit and water, and the place of production is the municipality of Nittedal in Akershus. A 2011 press release describes the brand with water from the Jostedal glacier. The vodka is not aged in barrels, so it has no colour or wood flavour.
Why this matters to you. This is the basic expression for anyone looking for vodka itself: unlike Vikingfjord Ice Shot, it is unsweetened and has full vodka strength. Norwegian akvavit is also made from potato spirit, but it is flavoured with caraway and aged, so the taste is quite different. WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
