🍷 White wine glass
A smaller, narrower glass that keeps the wine from warming up.
A white wine glass is smaller and narrower than a red wine glass. Usually it has an elongated or slightly tapered bowl on a stem. The shape is made so that the wine does not warm quickly and the aroma gathers near the rim.
White wine is served cool, usually at 8 to 12 degrees. A narrow bowl has less contact with air and with the warmth of the hand, so the wine stays cool longer. The stem is there to hold the glass without warming the bowl with your fingers.
The narrow top keeps fresh aromas of flowers, citrus and apple. There are different shapes for different whites: slightly wider for aged Chardonnay, more elongated for light, fresh wines like Riesling.
The white wine glass belongs to wine glasses. Wine is poured to a third or half, so that it can be swirled and its aroma sensed. Serving temperature and glass shape together help the wine open up.
