🍷 Flute glass
A tall narrow glass in which bubbles stay visible for a long time.
A flute is a tall, narrow glass on a thin stem. It is used for sparkling wine: Champagne, Prosecco, Cava. The word comes from French and is the same as the instrument, the flute.
The shape is well thought out. The narrow bowl preserves the bubbles, and they rise in thin streams for a long time. This is pretty, and the narrow top also holds the aroma. You hold the stem so that your hand does not warm the wine.
The flute is a type of wine glass, but a special one for sparkling wine. It is the opposite of the coupe, a wide shallow bowl. From a coupe the gas escapes faster and the wine goes flat quickly, so the flute is now considered more practical.
Some experts prefer an ordinary white wine glass for sparkling wine, as the aroma opens up better there. But for celebrations and a nice presentation the flute remains a classic.
Fill it about two thirds, not to the brim, to leave room for the foam.
