🥃 Woodford Reserve Wheat
Woodford Reserve wheat whiskey: mash of 52% wheat, 20% malt, 20% corn and 8% rye; 45.2% ABV.
Woodford Reserve Wheat is an American wheat whiskey from the Woodford Reserve brand. The official page names the mash bill: 52% wheat, 20% malt and 20% corn, plus 8% rye. Its strength is 45.2% ABV, or 90.4 proof. It is not a bourbon, because corn makes up only a fifth of the mash here.
Under 27 CFR § 5.143, wheat whiskey contains at least 51% wheat; it is distilled to no more than 160 proof and enters new charred oak barrels at no more than 125 proof. The official page does not state the age, barrel type or distillation method for this specific release, so we do not write about them.
Why it matters to you. Few producers make wheat whiskey, so this release is a convenient way to see how the character changes when the grain changes: compare it with Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Woodford Reserve Rye. Read the full name and the strength. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
