Alsace Grand Cru Rosacker is a grand cru in Alsace, France. The vineyard lies next to the village of Hunawihr in the Haut-Rhin département. It is known for dry Rieslings. Grand cru is the top category of plots in Alsace, and there are only a few dozen.
The soil here is limestone and sand, and the slope faces south. This gives the berries warmth and light. Rosacker wines may be dry, though sweeter styles such as late harvest are also allowed. Besides Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris grow on the plot. Riesling gives wine with notes of citrus, minerals and white flowers, and bright acidity. It ages well, revealing notes of honey and petrol.
Rosacker belongs to the Haut-Rhin, the area along the Rhine. The wine is still and white. When serving, remember it is full-bodied: fish, poultry and delicate cheeses suit it. Because of the limited area, there is little of it, and it is expensive.
