The Italian word for medium-sweet wine.

Amabile is the Italian label term for a medium-sweet wine. It means “amiable” or “pleasant”. It is one of the official sweetness terms for Italian wine and is recognised in EU labelling rules.

Amabile has more sugar than a medium-dry wine but less than a sweet one. For still wines that is roughly 12 to 45 grams of sugar per litre, depending on acidity. The sugar remains because fermentation is stopped before the yeast has eaten all of it.

Related terms sit nearby. Abboccato is also medium-sweet and is sometimes seen as slightly less sweet. Dolce means a fully sweet wine. Amabile is common for Lambrusco, some Malvasia and Moscato wines, and some reds from Umbria and Lazio. These wines are usually drunk young and well chilled, with snacks, spicy food or fruit.
