🥃 Edradour 10 Year Old
The core expression of Edradour: an unpeated ten-year-old whisky from Oloroso sherry casks; 43 or 46% ABV depending on the release.
Edradour 10 Year Old is the core expression of the Edradour brand, from Pitlochry in the Highlands, and part of its classic range. It is an unpeated single malt Scotch whisky aged for ten years. The strength depends on the release: 46% ABV on the distillery website, and 43% ABV at the British retailer House of Malt.
The whisky is distilled, matured and bottled at the distillery itself. According to the Edradour website, the Distillery Edition is matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks, without chill filtration or colouring; House of Malt adds ex-bourbon casks to the Oloroso ones. The Unchillfiltered version is a single-cask release with the distillation and bottling dates on the label.
Why it matters to you. It is a good starting point for the sherried style of the brand, while Edradour Ballechin 10 Year Old from the same distillery is peated. There are several releases, so check the strength and cask types on the label. Without chill filtration the whisky may turn cloudy when cold, which does not affect the taste. The WHO reminds us that no level of alcohol consumption is safe.

What to read next
- 🍷 Alcohol and health — Alcohol in any drink is harmful in large amounts, and the risks grow with the quantity.
- 🥃 Barley and malt in whisky — Malted barley is the base of whisky: malt enzymes convert starch in the mash, and EU whisky is distilled below 94.8% vol.
- 🍷 Drunk driving — Never drive after drinking wine: alcohol slows your reactions.
- 🥃 Ex-bourbon barrel — American white oak cask of 180–200 litres used for bourbon: bourbon may only be aged in new charred casks, so used ones go to Scotch, Irish whiskey and rum.
