🥃 Tomatin 18 Year Old
18-year-old Tomatin single malt, the oldest in the core range: a finish in first-fill oloroso sherry casks; 46% ABV.
Tomatin 18 Year Old is the oldest expression in the Tomatin core range. The youngest whisky in the bottle is at least 18 years old, and the strength is 46% ABV. The producer describes it as silky and dry, with dried apricot, nougat and nuts, followed by tropical fruit and a long, full finish.
How it is made. According to the Tomatin website, the whisky matures in traditional oak casks, and the final maturation takes place in large first-fill oloroso sherry casks. The Dramble's 2017 review specifies that the main maturation takes place in bourbon barrels and the finish in oloroso casks. The producer does not state the length of the finish.
Why it matters to you. Oloroso is a dry sherry, so the 18 Year Old is not as sweet as the 14 Year Old from port casks, and it has more depth than the 12 Year Old. Remember that the age on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle. The WHO reminds us: there is no safe dose of alcohol.

- 🍷 Drunk driving — Never drive after drinking wine: alcohol slows your reactions.
