The eastern hills near Cividale.

Colli Orientali del Friuli ("eastern hills of Friuli") is a wine zone in the province of Udine in north-eastern Italy, near the town of Cividale del Friuli and the border with Slovenia. It belongs to the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The district is divided into three parts: Ramandolo in the north, Cialla and Corno di Rosazzo. Climate and soils are similar to the neighbouring Collio zone.

The zone is known for its white wines. The main grape is Friulano (a local variety formerly known as "Tocai Friulano"), which makes up almost a third of plantings. Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Verduzzo, Pinot Bianco and Ribolla Gialla are also grown. Among reds, Merlot leads, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, along with the local Pignolo, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso and Schioppettino.

Within the zone there are three top-category DOCG appellations: Ramandolo (a sweet wine from Verduzzo), Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit, a sweet wine from partly dried Picolit, and Rosazzo, a white appellation.

For lovers of white wine this is one of the main addresses in Italy: the wines are fresh and aromatic. Besides the main appellation there are two small DOCs, Cialla and Corno di Rosazzo; Cialla is noted for dry whites and for sweet wines from Picolit and Verduzzo.
