Sauvignon Vert is a white wine grape known in different countries by different names. In Italy it is called Friulano, and in Chile Sauvignonasse. The name "Sauvignon Vert" is used in France. In Chile it was long confused with Sauvignon Blanc and sold under that name. It turned out they are different varieties, and it is now named separately. The best-known wines are made in Italy, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. There the grape grows in Collio, Colli Orientali del Friuli, Isonzo and Grave del Friuli. It is also found in the Slovenian region of Goriลกka Brda, and in the Veneto. The wine is dry and fresh, with notes of pear, almond and herbs, and a pleasant light bitterness on the finish. The body is medium and acidity moderate. It is usually drunk young. It is served chilled with San Daniele ham, fish and vegetables. The grape is a parent of the variety Saint-Pierre Dorรฉ. It matters for Friuli and is among the region's main white grapes.
