🥃 Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or
Glenmorangie line finished in sweet wine casks: Nectar d'Or is the predecessor of today's The Nectar 16, 46% ABV.
Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or is a single malt finished in Sauternes casks, the predecessor of today's The Nectar 16 at 46% ABV 1. According to the producer, Dr Bill Lumsden took the idea from the memory of a French pastry shop. The producer's catalogue now lists The Nectar 1.
Difford's Guide described Nectar d'Or as a 15-year-old at 46% ABV, not chill-filtered: at least 10 years in ex-bourbon casks, then a few years in casks that held Sauternes 2.
The Nectar 16 spends 14 years in bourbon casks, then 2 years in sweet wine casks: Sauternes and Monbazillac from France, Moscatel from Spain and Tokaji from Hungary 1.
The producer describes a bronze-gold colour, an aroma of brioche, baked apricot and vanilla pudding, a palate with lemon zest, raisin bread and spice, and a long finish 1. Each wine, it says, adds something: the French ones pastry, Moscatel syrupy sweetness, Tokaji white chocolate and almond 1.
Why this matters to you. Nectar d'Or and The Nectar 16 are not the same whisky: age and cask mix differ. Check the name and age on the label. The sweet wine was only in the cask, and the strength remains 46%. WHO: no amount of alcohol is safe 4.
