🥃 Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège
Hennessy cognac at 40% ABV with the V.S.O.P designation; according to Difford's Guide, more than 60 eaux-de-vie from the four main crus; the classification's history leads to an 1817 order.
Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège is a cognac from the Hennessy house at 40% ABV with the V.S.O.P designation. It sits one grade above V.S: under AOC Cognac rules the youngest eau-de-vie must be at least four years old. The brand describes the nose as apricot and the palate as vanilla and oak.
According to Difford's Guide, the blend contains more than 60 cognac eaux-de-vie from the region's four main crus; no exact age is stated on the bottle. On 7 October 1817 the Prince Regent of England, the future George IV, ordered from the house “a very exquisite old pale cognac”, and Difford's Guide links the emergence of the V.S.O.P classification to this order. Distillation is double, in a Charentais still.
Why this matters to you. V.S.O.P is an age designation for all cognac, not only for Hennessy; the years are counted by the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend. Compare it with V.S (from 2 years) and X.O (from 10 years) by the designation. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
