📜 Lugana

Appellation ✔ Checked: 10.2026 · sources: 1 Updated:

White wines from Turbiana from the southern shore of Lake Garda.

Lugana is a white wine from the southern shore of Lake Garda in northern Italy. The vineyards lie on the border of Lombardy and Veneto. The soils here are clayey, and the lake softens the climate, making summers warmer and winters milder. The appellation is a protected one (PDO).

The wine is made from the Turbiana grape, called Trebbiano di Lugana in other places. It is usually dry and fresh, smelling of flowers, citrus and almond, with pleasant acidity. Besides ordinary Lugana there are aged versions and a sparkling wine.

Lugana goes well with lake fish, appetisers, rice and light dishes. It can be drunk young, and the best wines can keep for several years, gaining honeyed shades. Lake Garda is one of the most beautiful wine areas of Italy, and Lugana is its white calling card. The name has travelled from local to known around the world.
