🥃 Luxardo Amaretto di Saschira
Almond liqueur from Luxardo, 24% ABV (previously 28%); sources describe the origin of the almond flavour differently.
Luxardo Amaretto di Saschira is an almond liqueur from the Luxardo house, with a strength of 24% ABV. The strength was lowered from 28% in 2021, when the label was updated for the house's 200th anniversary. It is the only almond line in the Luxardo range, and it stands beside the cherry liqueurs of the house.
Sources describe the origin of the flavour differently. Difford's Guide says the liqueur is made from paste of the finest almonds from Avola in southern Sicily and rests for eight months in larch vats. The official Luxardo website names essential oils from cherry, peach and apricot pits as the source of the almond aroma, and mentions a light vanilla finish. So check the ingredients on the label, as the available data differ.
Why this matters to you. Amaretto di Saschira is the lightest in strength of Luxardo's three lines, compared with Maraschino Originale (32% ABV) and Sangue Morlacco (30% ABV). It is chosen for cocktails such as the Amaretto Sour. The WHO reminds us that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
