Philadelphia Original
Philadelphia Original is the classic Philadelphia cream cheese, made with pasteurised milk and real cream, with no added preservatives.
Philadelphia Original is the classic cream cheese of the Philadelphia brand, the product the brand began with. In Europe it is made by Mondelez International, in the US and Canada by The Kraft Heinz Company.
It is a fresh, unripened soft cheese made with pasteurised milk and real cream. In the UK version the ingredients are full fat soft cheese, salt, guar gum as stabiliser and citric acid, with no added preservatives; it has about 21 g fat per 100 g and is suitable for vegetarians. In the US, Original comes as a brick and as a spread in a tub, and Kraft Heinz says it adds no artificial flavours, preservatives or dyes.
There are also mini tubs for snacking. Next to Original the brand offers Light, with 40% less fat, and flavoured versions.
How to use: spread on a bagel with smoked salmon, stir into pasta sauces such as carbonara, whip into dessert creams and bake into cheesecake. Keep an opened pack in the fridge and use it soon.
Why it matters to you: for cheesecake choose Original; light and whipped versions give a different texture.
